Dear Barcelona…

we failed you.

It’s true, what I had imagined as being a beautiful and even relaxing trip ended up being a tiring, frustrating and at times surprising one.

Small glimpse of what just one part of our weekend looked like:

Saturday morning we sleep a little later than planned because, well, Lucy was still sleeping and who doesn’t go back to sleep on a weekend morning when the babe is asleep? That’s sacred time that does not come along all that often. When we do head out the door we (I) make the mistake of hopping on the first bus that shows up going in the direction of the city. “As long as its going towards the city, then it’s taking us closer to the Sagrada Familia.” **not my smartest moment. When we finally get off I suggest to Geo we just grab a cab because our tickets state our entry time is between 9:15 and 9:30. He assures me that this is just a “suggested” time and they’re probably not to stringent on it. **not his smartest moment.

Cut to us walking 1.5 miles to the basilica, only to get there and be told we weren’t allowed entry because we were 45 minutes past our entry time.

Enter annoyance and the beginning of whats to be a pretty long day.

Lucy wasn’t phased by her parent’s frustration, nope not one bit. Instead, she took in the sites like a boss. #HelloMyPeople

And the weekend just continues in this fashion until we get home on Sunday night after multiple travel delays. Besides the issues we ran into while in Barcelona we did find area’s of the city that we really enjoyed. Such as the area in which our Airbnb was located, El Poblenou which is right across from the Mar Bella and Bogatell beaches; strolling down to the water was my favorite part of the weekend. And across from the water was a terrific little neighborhood – full of little shops, family friendly restaurants and some great people watching. This also happens to be where we lost Lucy’s favorite little bunny – #tear.

Thank you for having us, Barcelona!

Grateful: For a visit from George’s brother and sister-in-law! It was so so nice having them here the past few days 🙂

The best feeling

is when your hair stylist begins to rinse the soap and dye out of your hair during an appointment. Between the warm water, the lulling background music and the smell of lilac shampoo, it’s all just too good to be true. And then you remember the best part has yet to come. The part that all men should consider learning how to do…

The head massage.

This alone is worth the cost of the entire appointment.

I only have one silly little problem with the whole experience though, do you lie back, close your eyes and just get into it or is that a little too, desperate? These are the things I think about – my poor brain. Part of me wants to do that immediately and then part of me is embarassed by how much I enjoy it and I end up pretending to be all nonchalant about it, as if I couldn’t be bothered one way or another (pssh, if they only knew).

To indulge in the head massage or not, what do you do? Oh and in case you’re wondering or need a new hair salon, I go to KA Ricco in the harbor. It’s a solid A+ every time 🙂

Happy hump day everyone! Here’s to having a great night 😉

PS. Geo, in case you’re reading this, my “great night” will consist of Nashville and going to bed. Sorry if I got your hopes up… love you! 😀

Happy Birthday to Me

It’s official, I am 30 years old. Yikes. With that comes a 30 year old face, one that seems to be much more willing to welcome little lines and age marks that are doing a wonderful job of freaking me out. I’ve never had beautifully smooth or blemish free skin but over the last couple years I’ve definitely noticed an increase in wrinkles, just little ones but still they’re there staring at me in the mirror.

So when I saw that Joanna Goddard (one of my favorite bloggers) posted about her favorite anti-aging cream products last week I decided it was fate intervening, telling me it was time to hop on the bandwagon and start investing in my skin (aka – I’m a huge sucker and saw my bday as an opportunity to splurge on myself).

Olay, please don’t disappoint, this face needs a little love!

In other news, this weekend I made this amazing soup for the second time around. Sharing it because it’s delicious AND easy to make – not always an easy combination to find. Go make it, I promise you won’t be disappointed. Ina knows whats up!
